Convert Excel (.xlsx, .xls) to VCF
Upload the .xlsx or .xls directly. The first worksheet is converted to text inside your browser, so the workbook itself never leaves your computer. Then map the columns and download your vCards.
Three steps
- 01
Upload the workbook
Drop your .xlsx or .xls on this page. Only the first worksheet is used, so move your contact list there if the file has several sheets.
- 02
Match the columns
Column headers from row 1 are matched to contact fields automatically where the names are clear. Adjust anything, then pick a single .vcf or one file per contact.
- 03
Review and download
Check the contacts as cards, correct anything, and download the .vcf or .zip. Import it on iPhone, Android, Gmail or Outlook.
Why the Excel file is converted in your browser
Spreadsheets are often the master copy of a contact list, with extra sheets and formulas you would rather not share. The conversion to plain text runs locally with a JavaScript library; only the resulting text of the first sheet is uploaded for mapping. Large or sensitive workbooks therefore stay on your device.
Preparing the sheet
Put the column names in row 1 and one contact per row. Remove merged cells, title rows and totals above the header. Keep phone numbers as text (Excel may show +91 98765 43210 as 9.19877E+11 when the cell is numeric; format the column as Text or add an apostrophe). Dates such as birthdays can stay as dates; they are converted to YYYY-MM-DD.
Multiple phone numbers or emails
Map each column separately: “Mobile” and “Office” can both map to Phone and both will be included on the card. The same works for personal and work e-mail.
Excel limits that do not apply here
Excel’s own “Export to vCard” does not exist, and add-ins usually cost money or need macros. This converter needs no macro, no install and no account.
Getting the .vcf onto your device
- iPhone
- Open the .vcf from Mail, Messages, Files or AirDrop and tap “Add all contacts”. For large lists, sign in at icloud.com/contacts on a computer, choose the gear icon → Import vCard.
- Android
- Open the .vcf file on the phone and choose Contacts, or in Google Contacts go to Fix & manage → Import → select the file.
- Gmail / Google Contacts
- At contacts.google.com choose Import, pick the .vcf, and the contacts appear in your Google account (and on every phone signed into it).
- Outlook
- Outlook desktop: File → Open & Export → Import/Export → Import a VCARD file. Outlook.com: People → Manage → Import contacts.
Questions about this tool
Does it support .xls (Excel 97–2003) as well as .xlsx?
Yes, both. .xlsm macro workbooks work too; macros are ignored. If a file fails to read, save it as .xlsx or as CSV UTF-8 and try again.
Will formulas be converted?
Cell values are used, not formulas. If a column is calculated (for example a full name joined from first and last), its displayed result is what ends up in the vCard.
What about several sheets?
Only the first sheet is read. Move the contacts sheet to the first position or copy it into a new workbook.
Is there a row limit?
Uploads are capped at about 900 KB of text, which is several thousand contacts. Split very large lists into two files.
Other tools
Convert CSV to VCF (vCard)
Upload a CSV, tell us which column is the name, phone and email, and download a .vcf that imports into any phone or mail app. Nothing to install and nothing to sign up for.
OpenView and edit VCF files online
A .vcf is just text, but reading it is painful. Upload one or more files to see the contacts as cards, fix mistakes, add photos, scan a QR code to save a contact on a phone, and download the result.
OpenSplit a VCF file into individual contacts
Phones and mail apps often export every contact into one big .vcf. Upload it here to see each contact on its own card, pick the ones you need, and download them individually or as a .zip.
